Biography

Ethyn Evans currently serves as the Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium at Blinn College in Brenham, TX and Austin Community College in Austin, TX. He is also a concluding his studies as a Doctoral Student of Musical Arts in Tuba Performance at The University of Texas as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Ethyn received his Master of Music in Tuba Performance and Pedagogy from Oklahoma State University and a Bachelor of Music Education and Leadership Development from Louisiana State University.

As an active performer, Ethyn has been invited to play at Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and currently serves as Principal Tuba for the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra, the Austin Civic Orchestra, the Calcasieu British Brass Band, and is a performing member of the Backburner Tuba and Euphonium Collective. He has performed around the country with several professional ensembles including the Dallas Winds, Houston Symphony, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Tulsa Symphony, Tulsa Opera, Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, Texarkana Symphony Orchestra, Ft. Smith Symphony, Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Lake Charles Symphony. Ethyn has competed in several international competitions such as the International Tuba Euphonium Association Tuba Artist Competition, the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival Solo Artist Competition, the Arnold Jacobs Orchestral Competition, and the International Tuba Euphonium Conference Small Ensemble Competition.

As a passionate educator, Ethyn believes in a student-centered studio within a nurturing and inclusive environment where students may feel safe to explore and learn; recognizing the value of mutual respect and shared learning, he views his students as partners in the educational journey. His students have been awarded placements in TMEA, OKMEA, and LMEA All-State ensembles, NAfME National Honor Bands, and have received superior ratings at UIL/State Sponsored Solo and Ensemble Competitions. His students have also been accepted into undergraduate programs at Louisiana State University, McNeese State University, Nicholls State University, Northwestern State University, Oklahoma State University, Sam Houston State University, Southeastern Louisiana University, The University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, University of Colorado Boulder, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, University of Louisiana at Monroe, and the University of Southern Mississippi. Ethyn is also a member of the International Tuba Euphonium Association Collegiate Committee.

As a sought-after arranger for brass instruments, Ethyn has been commissioned to arrange works for brass quintets, tuba-euphonium quartets, and large brass ensembles around the country. He currently serves on the arrangement/compositional staff for the Austin Brass Collective and the Eastman Tuba Euphonium Academy.

His teachers include Professor Charles Villarrubia: Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at The University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Ryan Robinson: Associate Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Oklahoma State University, Dr. Nick Beltchev: Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Western Carolina University, Dr. Charles Goodman: Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Louisiana State University, Dr. Joe Skillen: Music Department Chair of the University of North Carolina Charlotte, and Professor William Rose: Associate Professor of Music and Assistant Department Head of the Performing Arts at McNeese State University.

 Ethyn Evans is an Eastman Performing Artist. He exclusively performs on an Eastman Winds 836 CC Tuba, an Eastman Winds 862 F Tuba, and an Eastman Winds 526 Bb Euphonium.
